Basics / What is it

Body butter is a rich, thick moisturizer usually made from plant-butters (like shea, cocoa, mango) and oils. It forms a barrier on the skin to help seal in moisture, soothe dryness, and improve skin texture. Because of its heavy emollient nature, it’s especially good for very dry skin, cracked areas, and for improving softness over time.

Some of the key benefits are:

  • Intense hydration and healing of dry or flaky skin.

  • Helps skin retain moisture and prevents drying or cracking.

  • Improves elasticity and softness.

  • Can soothe irritation, especially if formulated with gentle ingredients.

  • Gives skin a healthy glow and improved texture.

Yes - if you choose a formula free from harsh fragrances, synthetic irritants, and use plant-based, naturally soothing butters like unrefined shea. Do a patch test first on a small area. If your skin reacts, stop use.

Generally, body butter is formulated for the body and may be too heavy or rich for facial skin, especially for oily or acne-prone areas. Our fragrance-free body butters may be safe for lips (as a lip balm substitute) or small facial patches. But always test first. If you have sensitive facial skin, it’s safer to use products designed for face.

Best to apply body butter:

  • Right after bathing/showering while skin is still slightly damp as this helps lock in moisture.

  • At night or before bed for more intensive barrier and repair.

  • On dry patches, knees, elbows, heels, as needed throughout the day.
